Australian National Maritime Museum

AustralianNational Maritime Museum is one of the world leading maritime museums with exciting exhibitions and activities relevant to Australia's history.

　　The plans for the Australian National Maritime Museum were established in 1984, and the museum opened in 1991.

　　The Museum's focus is to be Australia's prime cultural resource for increasing and communicating knowledge, appreciation and enjoyment of Australia's past and continuing involvement with its waterways and the sea.

　　The Museum's primary role is the acquisition, conservation and presentation of material relevant to Australia's maritime history. The Museum aims to give visitors an appreciation of the role the sea plays in our lives and the importance of preserving our ocean environment and the animals which live in it.

　　Special Museum highlights include Spirit of Australia - the fastest boat in the world, a stunning exhibition on Australia beach culture and a regularly changing program of temporary exhibitions exploring different maritime themes from whales to pirates to migration. The National Maritime Collection at the Museum represents a nation's diverse experiences and perceptions of its maritime past and present. This is the most recent of Australia's major collections.
