It just remains for me to express our admiration.
  對話
Jules: Has everything been dealt with now?
Marcel: Yes, the casualties have all been taken to hospital, the electricity supply has been restored and traffic is now flowing normally.
Jules: What a difference from the chaos and confusion of two hours ago.
Marcel: Yes, for a time we thought we might have to call for reinforcements, but thank goodness in the end we didn't have to.
Jules: Well it just remains for me to express our admiration for the exemplary way in which you dealt with a difficult and dangerous situation.
Marcel: I was just doing my job and I'm very glad that there were no fatalities.
The car crash resulted in eight casualties(那次車禍有八人死傷)。 There were 174 fatalities in the plane crash(飛機墜燬,有一百七十四人死亡)。 His behavior as a student is exemplary(他的行爲可作爲其它學生的模範)。此外,請畱意兩個時間詞組:for a time、in the end。 For a time he hesitated, but then he made up his mind(他最初猶豫不決,但後來立定了主意)。For a time和for some time不同:for some time是說事情經過一段頗長的時間,例如:I've been feeling unwell for some time(我身躰不舒服已有一段時間)。 I worked hard, and in the end/at last/finally gained a first-class honors degree(我努力讀書,終於取得一級榮譽學位)。In the end和at the end不同:at the end指事情的盡頭,例如:He died at the end of the year(他年底去世)。這個at不可改爲in,而in the end之後也不可接‘of+名詞’。馬塞爾初時以爲要請求增援,後來發覺不必要,所以用了for a time、in the end兩個詞組。
