　　Inventors（發明家） have developed a new way to identify（識別） people, using a machine that scans（掃描） their eyeballs（眼球）. This new technology takes advantage of（利用） the fact that the iris（虹膜） of each person's eye is unique（獨一無二的）, and remains unchanged throughout a lifetime.

　　如果這項技術研制成功，那麽

　　There will be no ID cards to carry in your pocket, and no long numbers to memorize（記憶）.

　　也許，下次你再進入某個重要機關時，門衛會禮貌的攔住你說

　　Open Your Eyes And Let's See Who You Are.

　　「讀書筆記」

　　I.D.是identification的縮寫，也就是“身份証”的意思，可它也不僅指身份証，任何能証明你身份的証件，都可以叫做I.D.比如：

　　I used my driver's license as identification.
　　（我用駕駛執照作爲身份証明。）

　　你掉了身分証嗎？（Did you lose your ID card?）不，你沒有。（No, you didn't.）

　　right意思是exactly in a particular position or place，也就是“準確地出現在某個特定的位置”，在句中起強調的作用，就在那。（right up there）

　　在正中間，就是right in the middle of…造個句子：

　　She was standing right in the middle of the room.
　　她站在屋子正中間。

　　就在前麪，就可以說成right in front of…

　　There's the house, right in front of you.
　　就是這所房子，在你正前方。

　　我們未來的身份証在哪？它就在你的鼻子旁邊。（It's still right up there beside your nose.）

　　發明家已經開發出一種騐明身分的新方法，（Inventors have developed a new way to identify people）使用的是一台掃描眼球的機器。（using a machine that scans their eyeballs.）

　　這項新技術利用到一項事實：（This new technology takes advantage of the fact）每個人眼球的虹膜獨一無二，（that the iris of each person's eye is unique）而且終其一生都不會改變。（and remains unchanged throughout a lifetime.）

　　在這段中，that引導的定語從句脩飾先行詞fact.

　　你的口袋裡將不再放著身分証，（There will be no ID cards to carry in your pocket）你也不必再熟背長串的數字。（and no long numbers to memorize）

　　在今天的語法小教室，我們要來區分兩個詞，unique和only.

　　Unique有兩個意思，一是being the only one of its kind（獨一無二的），每個人的指紋都是不同的，就可以說：

　　Each person's fingerprints are unique.

　　它的第二個意思是usually good and special（特別的、非常好的），那麽一次千載難逢的機會就可以說是a unique opportunity，一種獨有的能力就是a unique ability.

　　可能在你的頭腦中，only和unique的意思差不多，都有“獨有的和無可匹敵的”兩種意思，比如：

　　This is the only watch that I have.

　　（這是我的表。）

　　She is the only person for the job.

　　（她是擔任這個工作最郃適的人選。）

　　那麽，它們的區別在哪呢？

　　如果你要指出的一樣東西以其獨特的品質或特征而區別於其他同類的東西，那麽你應該用unique來表達，（比如每個人的指紋都是不同的。）如果你要指出的東西衹是在某種條件下“”，（就像“我的表”，或在某個地域及時間範圍內“能擔任這個工作的的人”）那就衹能說only.

　　另外，在冠詞使用上也有一點小小區別。Unique前麪通常用a，而only則用the.
