One of the most talked [talked-about](1) topics of the town is the laid-off (下崗的) workers and re-employment (再就業) . Take Shanghai for example. It is estimated that there was about 7% of the population [who] (2) lost jobs in 1997. And the number is still increasing. This phenomenon (現象) has caught greatsocial attention.

Then, why did so many workers lose their jobs? I think, there are several reasons. First , with the development of science and technology, modern machines have replaced some unskilled workers. So those workers have to lay-off [to be laid off] (3)。 Second, with the industrial restructuring and economic development across China, China needs not those unskilled workers but those high qualified workers. So those workers with lower qualifications have to lay-off [to be laid off] (4 ) . Third, with a great population, the competition among the people is heated and as a result, some of them will be out of jobs.

However, every coin has its two sides. The phenomenon of laid-off workers is no exception. This phenomenon has its own advantage and disadvantage. For one thing, the large number of laid-off workers influence [affects](5)the social stability. Some poverty-stricken (6) laid-offs have to rob or steal in order to support themselves or their children to continue their studies. On the other hand, however, a large number of laid-offs help China with development. In order to be employed again, some laid-offs exert efforts (盡力) to study and compete with those employed, and the latter have to work harder for fear of losing their jobs. All those make more material value (7) and thus push the society to develop forward.

Yes, being out of job doesn't mean no job. The governmenthas made many efforts to solve this problem;re-employment project is one of them. The government has built up many special schools to retrain the laid-offs so as to help them find new jobs which they are up to.So I think, with the re-employment project, the problem of laid-off workers will be solved.

Finally,I would like to say:“Don't lose heart, laid-offs.The fate is grasped(8) in your own hands!”

There are many students in the classroom.

There are many students reading in the classroom.

There are many students who like to read in the classroom.

There are many students like to read in the classroom.(誤)

There be:

Many students like to read in the classroom.

Don't let me influence your decision.
