（三）“貓鼠聯袂”篇

　　1.play cat and mouse with

　　[文化溯源]貓捉到老鼠後，常常故意放開它，不等它跑遠又把它抓住。如此反複多次，直到老鼠精疲力竭，才喫掉它。1913年，英國議會爲對付獄中進行絕食的女權運動者，通過了一項“病囚暫釋法”（The Prisoners Act），槼定絕食囚徒可以獲得假釋，一但康複即重新關入獄中。這一法案被戯稱爲“貓捉老鼠法” （Cat-and-Mouse Act）。後來這一成語便表示“對……欲擒故縱”。

　　[例句]If you keep playing cat and mouse with your boyfriend he'll get another girl.要是你繼續對你的男友欲擒故縱，他會去找別的姑娘的。

　　2.When the cat is away, the mice will play.
