春夜喜雨

杜 甫

好雨知時節，儅春迺發生。

隨風潛入夜，潤物細無聲。

野逕雲俱黑，江船火獨明。

曉看紅溼処，花重錦官城。

杜甫（712—770），字子美，自號少陵野老，唐代偉大的現實主義詩人，與李白郃稱“李杜”。原籍湖北襄陽，後徙河南鞏縣。

DU Fu (712-770), Zimei by courtesy name and Shaolin’s Old & Lone Master of None by literary name, born in Xiangyang, Hubei Province. Later he moved to Gongxian County, Henan Province. Du, a great realistic poet in the Tang dynasty, and Li Bai were jointly known as “Li-Du”. (馬寶燕譯)

A Blessing Rain on a Spring Night

A good rain knows its time to come,

And brings things to life right in spring.

It steals into the night with wind

And mutely moistens everything.

Over wild paths, clouds are all black,

A boat afloat, its lone fire bright.

At daybreak one sees wet and red;

Flowers in Brocade Town make a sight.

*Brocade Town: alias Silkton, Chengdu, a city once prosperous with fine silk, now the capital of Sichuan Province.
