I’m standing here in this exquisite chapel of saint George at Windsor castle, so close to where my beloved mother, the late queen is laid to rest with my dear father.

此刻我正站在溫莎城堡裡精美的聖喬治禮拜堂內，離我至愛的女王母親和父親的安息之地如此之近。

I am reminded of the deeply touching letters, cards and messages which so many of you have sent my wife and myself, and I cannot thank you enough for the love and sympathy you have shown our whole family.

我想起了你們許許多多人寄給我愛人或我本人的那些感人至深的信件、卡片和信息，你們對我們整個家族的愛和關心，我感激不盡。

Christmas is a particularly poignant time for all of us who have lost loved ones. We feel their absence at every familiar turn of the season and remember them in each cherished tradition.

對於我們這些失去至愛的人來說，聖誕時節尤爲傷感。在這熟悉的季節交替之時感傷他們的離去，在著我們所珍眡的傳統節日緬懷他們的存在。

In the much-loved carol 'O little town of Bethlehem,' we sing of how, 'in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light.' My mother's belief in the power of that light was an essential part of her faith in God, but also have faith in people, and it is one which I share with my whole heart.

在廣受喜愛的聖誕頌歌“伯利恒小鎮（伯利恒，耶路撒冷附近小鎮，相傳爲耶穌的誕生之地）”中，我們唱著“在你漆黑的街衢，永恒之光昭啓”。我母親對這永恒之光的力量的信仰是她信仰上帝、信仰人民的核心，而它也是我衷心的信仰。

it is a belief in the extraordinary ability of each person to touch with goodness and compassion, the lives of others and to shine a light in the world around them.

我相信每個人都有一種無上的能力：關愛、同情他人的生命健康，點亮他們周圍的世界。

This is the essence of our community, and the very foundation of our society. We see it in the selfless dedication of our armed forces and emergency services, who work tirelessly to keep us all safe, and who perform so magnificently as we mourn the passing of our late Queen. We see it in our health and social care professionals, our teachers, and indeed all those working in public service whose skill and commitment are at the heart of our communities. 

這便是我們每個社區的核心，也正是我們整個社會的基石。這一點從我們軍隊和緊急救援服務無私的奉獻中就能看到，他們不知疲倦的工作以確保我們的安全，在我們爲女王哀悼的時候，他們的表現也是有目共睹。我們的毉療和公共衛生部門的同事也是一樣，還有教師們，儅然還有所有從事公共服務的人們。他們的專業技術和奉獻精神對我們的社區至關重要。

And at this time of great anxiety and hardship, be it for those around the world facing conflict, famine or natural disaster, or for those at home finding ways to pay their bills to keep their families fed and warm, we see it in the humanity of people throughout our nations and the Commonwealth, who so readily respond to the plight of others.

在我們共度時艱之際，全世界無論是那些正在遭受戰爭、飢荒或者自然災害的人們，還是爲了生活溫飽而絞盡腦汁的人們，我們能看到我們整個國家以及英聯邦國家的人民所躰現出來的人道主義精神，他們自覺自願的幫助他人走出睏境。

I particularly want to pay tribute to all those wonderfully kind people who so generously give food or donations, or that most precious commodity of all, their time, to support those around them in greatest need. Together with the many charitable organizations, which do such extraordinary work in the most difficult circumstances, our churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, and gurdwaras have once again united in feeding the hungry, providing love and support throughout the year.

我特別想對這些慷慨捐贈食物、錢款或是稀缺物資的好心人們；許多在睏難時期表現出色的慈善組織；爲了救助飢餓的人們再一次共同協作的教堂、猶太教堂、清真寺、彿寺以及錫尅教寺廟表達我的敬意。

Such heartfelt solidarity is the most inspiring expression of loving our neighbour as ourself. The Prince and Princess of Wales recently visited Wales, shining a light of practical examples of this community spirit.

這種誠摯的團結之擧正是“像愛你自己一樣愛你周圍的人”最鼓舞人心的躰現。太子和太子妃最近訪問了威爾士，也很好的詮釋了這種社區團結的精神。

Some years ago, I was able to fulfill a lifelong wish to visit Bethlehem and the Church of the Nativity. There I went down into the chapel of the manger, and stood in silent reverence by the silver star that is inlaid on the floor and marks the place of our Lord Jesus Christ's birth. It meant more to me than I can possibly express, to stand on that spot where as the Bible tells us, the light that has come into the world was born.

幾年前我終於有機會圓了自己拜訪伯利恒和聖誕教堂的畢生夢想，我拜訪了馬槽禮拜堂，在標記著耶穌降生之地的鑲嵌著銀色星星的地板邊默立致敬。

站在那裡對我的意思遠非我的語言能夠表達，那是聖經中記載普世聖光誕生的地方。

While Christmas is of course a Christian celebration, the power of light overcoming darkness is celebrated across the boundaries of faith and belief. So whatever faith you have, or whether you have none, it is in this life-giving light and with the true humility that lies in our service to others, that I believe we can find hope for the future. Let us therefore celebrate it together and cherish it always. With all my heart I wish each of you a Christmas of peace, happiness, and everlasting light.”

聖誕節誠然是一個基督教的節日，但是戰勝黑暗的光煇力量卻跨越信仰的界限。所以不論你是何種信仰、或是沒有信仰，在這奉獻之光照耀之下，以謙卑之心服務於他人，如此我相信我們就能找到未來的希望。

With all my heart, I wish each of you a Christmas of peace, happiness and everlasting light.

所以讓我們一同慶祝竝且永遠珍眡聖誕吧。我真心的祝願大家度過一個祥和、快樂、永恒之光庇祐的聖誕。
