（118）How to Do It Politely
Jimmie was Mr. Root's office boy. One morning he came in the office, and throwing his cap on the desk, said, “Mr. Root, there's a ball game down at the park today, and I want to go and watch it.”
Mr. Root was perfectly willing that the boy should go,but thought he would teach him a lesson how he should say it politely.
“Jimmie,” he said, “that isn't the way to talk to me. Now sit down in my chair and I'll show you how to do it politely.”
The boy took the office chair, and his boss picked up his cap and went outside. Then he opened the door softly, and holding the cap in his hand, said quietly to the boy in the big chair:“Please, sir, there's a ball game at the park today. If you don' t need service this afternoon,I'd like to go and watch it.”
The boy replied at once:
“Why, certainly, Jimmie, and here's fifty cents to pay your way in .'
如何禮貌待人
吉米是魯特先生辦公室的夥計。一天吉米來到辦公室，將帽子往桌上一扔，說：“魯特先生，今天公園有場球賽，我想去看。”
魯特先生十分願意讓小夥子去，但是又覺得該教教他如何禮貌地說話。
“吉米，”他說，“這樣對我說話不對。來，坐到我的位置上，讓我來告訴你該怎樣禮貌地說話。”
小夥子坐在了辦公室的椅子上，他的老板拿起帽子走了出去。然後輕輕的開門，把帽子拿在手上，很平靜的對坐在椅子上的小夥子說：
“對不起，先生，今天公園有場球賽，如果您今天下午沒有什麽事情的話，我想去看看。”
小夥子馬上廻答： ”
“儅然可以了，吉米。拿去，這是50美分，給你買門票。
