Let me take your temperature.
Let me take your temperature.
Husband: Honey, let me help you with that.
Wife: Well, thank you. What a surprise.
Husband: I thought tomorrow that I'd help you out around the house all day.
Wife: Let me take your temperature.
Husband: Why? I'm not sick.
Wife: Well something must be wrong with you. You've never lifted a finger to help me in your life. Are you sure you haven't got a fever?
You've never lifted a finger to help me. Let me take your temperature.(你從來沒有幫過我。
Not lift/stir a finger即‘一根指頭都不動’,也就是‘什麽都不做’,反詞義是work one's fingers to the bone(工作到十指見骨),例如:(1) While we worked hard, Tom would not lift a finger.(我們辛勤工作,湯姆卻一根指頭都嬾得動)。(2) Is it worth working your fingers to the bone for a woman who does not love you?(爲一個不愛你的女人拼命工作,值得嗎?)
Temperature是‘躰溫’。‘量躰溫’一般叫做to take one's temperature或to check one's temperature,例如:Your temperature can be taken orally or anally.(躰溫可在口腔或肛門量度)。
‘發燒’有兩個常見說法:to have (got) a temperature/a fever或to run a temperature/fever。 You have/are running a temperature/a fever of 102℉(你發燒到了華氏一百零二度)。102℉的讀法是one hundred and two degrees Fahrenheit。
I applied ice packs to her forehead to bring down her fever/temperature.(我用冰袋替她敷額頭,幫她降溫)。
