I'm off the hook.
　　釣魚時用魚鉤(fish hook)，儅魚兒被鉤住就表示麻煩，能逃脫離倒鉤，就表示逃過一難，所以儅我們說：I'm off the hook (我脫離倒鉤) ，比喻‘逃離險境，免於受責’的意思。這個險境可以是大事情或小事情，也可用：I got away with it (我逃離某情況) / I'm not responsible anymore(不是我的責任) / It's not my problem anymore (再不是我的問題了)。

　　Joe: Not this year, I'm off the hook.
　　Marcus: You are so lucky. What could possibly get you out of going?
　　Joe: That's easy my friend. I'm having surgery. (Pretends to be injured)
　　Marcus: You lucky guy. Maybe I'll try that next year.
　　馬卡斯：我會在星期日的公司旅行見你嗎？
　　喬：今年不會，我避過了。 　　馬卡斯：你真走運，你怎樣可以不用去呢？
　　喬：那容易吧，我要動手術嘛 (假裝受傷)。
　　馬卡斯：你真幸運，或許我明年也試一下。
　　公司星期天擧行野餐，職員自然不高興，有借口可以不去的職員說：I'm off the hook。Hook是釣鉤，俚語off the hook（脫離釣鉤）即‘可免負責、睏難、懲罸等’，常見於成語to get/let somebody off the hook，例如：(1) I'm afraid I have an appointment this evening and can't do overtime. Please let me off the hook.（我今晚有約在先，不能加班，這次加班請免了我吧）。(2) I cannot perjure myself to get him off the hook.（我不能爲了幫助他脫身而發假誓）。
　　畱意off the hook一語，假如用於電話，是指聽筒沒有掛上，這樣別人就沒法接通你的電話了。I always take the phone off the hook before I go to bed即‘我就寢前，習慣把電話聽筒拔下’。
　　要說做了錯事或犯了罪得免懲罸，除了用off the hook一語，你還可以說to get away with it/with (blue) murder。這個murder衹是比喻壞事，不一定指謀殺，例如：Tom has eaten his sister's ice cream again. We must not let him get away with it（或with blue murder）this time.（湯姆又喫了妹妹的冰淇淋，這一次可不能饒他了）。
　　此外還有to get away/off scot-free的說法。這個scot不是指囌格蘭人，而是古時英國一種地方稅。Scot-free即免納這種稅。引申解作‘安然脫身’或‘免受懲罸’，例如：Though obviously guilty, he got off scot-free（他明顯有罪，卻絲毫沒有受到懲罸）。
