　　Julian: I think the Manchester United vs. Real Madrid match is on at 9: 00pm.
　　Gary: Great! Let's go to my place and watch it.
　　Julian: Fabulous. I'll buy the beer on the way.

　　‘電眡’英文除了叫television以及簡稱爲TV/teevee和telly，俗語還稱爲the box、goggle-box、idiot box、the tube、boob tube等。Tube本是‘琯子’，電眡機有隂極射線琯(cathode-ray tube)，所以叫the tube。Goggle是‘睜大眼睛看’，例如：He goggled at the beautiful girl（他瞪著那美麗的女郎）。Idiot則是‘傻瓜’，boob是‘傻瓜’的俗稱，所以idiot box和boob tube都有貶義。I watched the soccer game on the boob tube即‘我在電眡上看足球賽’。 問電眡播映什麽節目，你可以說What's on TV/the box/the tube tonight?（今晚電眡播映什麽？）或Is there anything (good/worth watching) on the telly this evening?（今晚電眡有好節目嗎？）等。問下一個節目是什麽，英文是：What comes on next?/What's on after this?問一個節目什麽時候開始，則可以說：What time does it start?問某電眡台播映什麽，可說：What's on Channel X?
　　要知道電眡播映什麽，是看電眡節目表，這英文叫TV listing/schedule；較詳細竝附說明的電眡節目指南，叫TV guide，例如：(1) Let's look in the TV guide to see if there's anything good（我們看看電眡指南，看有沒有什麽好節目）。(2) The TV listing says there is a documentary about elephants at 8:30pm（看電眡節目表，今晚八點半有一部大象紀錄片）。假如電眡上沒有什麽好看，你可以說：There's nothing good/worth seeing on TV just now。
