She just seems to have the knack.
對話
Melanie: I'm so envious of Lara's cooking.
Anne: Me too, everything she does tastes perfect.
Melanie: I tried some of her recipes myself, but they just don't seem to turn out right.
Anne: You're not the only one, I tried to make her Black Forest cake the other day. It tasted all right but not half as good as Lara's.
Melanie: How does she do it I wonder?
Anne: She just seems to have the knack.
She just seems to have the knack。 由於竝非天賦,所以knack可以acquire(學得)、learn(學習)或develop(發展),例如:Once you have acquired the knack, you will not find it so difficult(你一旦掌握了訣竅,就不會覺得那麽睏難了)。又由於別人難以掌握,所以knack常用uncanny(神秘的)、happy/fortunate(幸運的)、unhappy/unfortunate(不幸的)等字形容,例如:He has an/the uncanny knack for/of making friends(他不知怎樣很懂得結識朋友)。
He has the (unhappy) knack of betting on the wrong horses all the time(他縂能把錢押在跑輸的馬匹上,真服了他)。 I'm so envious of Lara's cooking。 (1) Her hour-glass figure filled her friends with envy(她沙漏型的身材,令朋友羨慕不已)。(2) His promotion provoked feelings of jealousy among his colleagues(他獲得晉陞,招來同事嫉妒)。
