The software has become corrupted.

　　Trudi: My word processor is doing funny things.
　　Jan: Like what?
　　Trudi: Well it shuts itself down without warning every now and then and also sometimes it just freezes.
　　Jan: Have you tried switching the computer off and restarting?
　　Trudi: Yes, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
　　Jan: It sounds as if the software has become corrupted.
　　Trudi: How can I fix it?
　　Jan: The best thing would be to un-install and then re-install the program. That should solve the problem.
　　特魯: 我的文書処理器活動有點古怪。
　　簡: 怎樣古怪呢？ 　　特魯: 它有時會毫無預警自動關閉，有時又會死機。
　　簡: 你有沒有試過關了計算機，重新開機？
　　特魯: 試過了，但似乎毫無作用。
　　簡: 這樣看來，應是軟件有問題。
　　特魯: 這問題怎樣解決呢？
　　簡: 是把程序解除，然後重新安裝。這樣問題就應該可以解決。
　　計算機程序或档案有了訛誤，英文叫做corrupt。這個字作動詞或形容詞都可以，例如：(1) The file was corrupted by a virus（档案中了病毒，有訛誤）。(2) The corrupt program failed when I tried to use it（那程序有訛誤，我要使用時，遇上故障）。計算機軟件等有訛誤，可能死機。 ‘死機’可以用freeze（凍結）、crash（垮了）、die（死亡）、respond（反應）等動詞來說，也可用副詞(adverb) down，例如：Sometimes the computer just freezes一語，可改爲The computer now and then dies/won't respond at all/crashes（計算機不時會死機）。
　　假如要說 ‘計算機死機了’，死機那一剎那已成過去，所以freeze、die、crash等字也應用過去式，例如：My word processor died/crashed/froze。不過，假如要說 ‘現在計算機完全不動’這情況，則儅然應用現在式動詞，例如：(1) The screen is frozen（屏幕僵住了）。(2) My PC is down because of a power surge（由於一陣電力不穩，我的個人計算機死機了）。你也可以說My computer won't respond：那won't (=will not)不是指‘將不會’。Will除了指‘未來’，還有‘願意’、‘肯’的意思，例如：He won't listen to reason（和他講道理，他都不肯聽）。The computer won't respond即‘計算機不肯按指令行事’。訛誤的程序叫a corrupt program。計算機程序無論美式還是英式英文都寫作program，不可作programme。Programme是英式英文，但衹用來說‘計劃’、‘節目’等。
