Hatched from cloud soil are beans and rice
And resting in the soil, extremely sleepy potatoes
Sucking the wild strawberries silently, with imaginary expectations
They are changing the angles, and the speed of wetlands and days and nights
The theology symbol hatched from the soil of cloud
Coming back to my arms, these nights given by god
I am sleepless, walking in the night, in the darkness
Planted the honeydew, till the gorgeous sadness changed to shine
Until I opened that drawer, exposing you or me
Tracing back the mysterious of identity. After, those theological symbols started to be possessed.

A Nail in the Hole is a Lonely Nail
Thinking that all nails in this world are deep
in their own separate holes, you are sad and out of breath.
Thinking of how they are caught by their own fates
in the darkness, never seen the day light, unable to get out,
you want to get up immediately, run to the end of the world.
Like us, nail commits itself to the hole, its own deep well.
It finds a place to enter, enter and then to be buried alive.
It must go to the core of the darkness
to accept the sentence passed down by time, forever.

Notes on Jingting Hill
All our effort is nothing
to a burst of spring wind which urges flowers to bloom,
inspires birds to sing, forces all things to open,
and makes love shine.
All our effort is nothing
to a flying bird that soars in the bright sky,
returns to its nest at sunset.
We are the ones who can't return,
strayed souls with no place to go.
All our effort is nothing
to a pavilion standing in the center of Jingting hill,
a converging point of all the views, all the worshippers
gathering here like clouds.
All our effort is nothing
to a Li Bai drunken poem that brings us
together to sing and drink, to forget the difference
between ancient and modern days,
to become lost in mountains and rivers.

The world would be good if

So many sad farewells

Your ticket points afar,
A whole city swings in your hand.
Yet another hand
Holds onto the platform—
My heart already weeps.
The platform scraped into another ticket
In my tightly closed palm.
I cannot go afar with you,
That faraway place does not admit
My platform pass.
There, my arrival will be restricted,
And here, your departure is on time.

October Poem
When other poets in another world
singing bronze poems of October,
I walk into the only park on our street.
It's tiny, no bird walker, nor Tai Chi exercises, none
except eucalyptus trees breathing hard in the haze.
Despaired roses like shamed brides
ginkgo leaves on the lawn, dead butterflies.
No hint of wind, only sweating stones
huddling together, a shrub of wild peach trees
is still in its dream.
All seems to be in order—
and the repetitious sound of desperate trimming
replaces the birds chirping.

Paul Yang's Narration
Passing by Taipei, under the betel tree
along the highway, the sunlight
swimming down water grasses in the jungle,
through the shockproof houses, scattered low,
the coach goes smoothly toward Tainan. “Morning,
Ladies and Gentlemen”. Yang, the tour guide, more precisely,
keeps on his mother's memory, in 1948
in the tide of "great retreat",
as the mistress of a KMT junior officer,
She, together with her husband, on a quarside in Fujian
boarded on the ship bound for Taiwan --
In our familiar movie, at least she is
the winner of emotion, isn't she?
She replaced the first wife.
Her future son is now loudly
telling us the following things.
Yes, she stayed with him.
But then, the ship though limited for 750 passengers,
more than two thousand stood in iron cabin,
straight in the impenetrable confrontation,
male or female, weak or young, flesh to flesh.
They stood to vomit,
to scold and to die.
For a dozen of windy, rainy days and nights
She listened to the dead, along the way,
thrown into the sea. What a horrifying
"splash”. It was the animal surviving instincts
made this old woman, just stepping into marriage
struggle to survive from the boundless fecal waste under her feet,
No, to survive from a battle,
as a grain of sand in the sea.

The Windmill
The coastal levee of the Lixiahe
thinned when the woods took off their clothes.
The windmill towered above its giant wheel.
By turns the sun and the moon
threw down their bets and gambled for life.
Because the wind no longer gave power
and water did not flow beneath the ice,
the farmers shrewdly took the sail
from the windmill and stored it in their homes.
And when their daughters married,
The farmers' voices faded into the distance
as they walked their daughters away
along the dirt of a road that never ended.
I witnessed the anguish
the windmill vented to the world
when it was stripped
in the winter of 1970.
The cold driven by the north wind,
the frozen rain and snow destroyed
the dream of blooming canola.
Crows flew toward the naked windmill,
a shattered skeleton which clamored
and whistled until
its sound echoed
everywhere in the Lixiahe.
