Get a taste of your own medicine.
Have a taste of your own medicine. An eye for an eye/a tooth for a tooth
Waiter: Well doctor, here's your bill. Thanks for eating here tonight.
Doctor: What's this all about? You've charged me double. There must be some mistake.
Waiter: That amount is right, there's no mistake.
Doctor: Why are you overcharging me?
Waiter: We thought you needed to get a taste of your own medicine. Tastes bad doesn't it? But we all feel a lot better for it.
We thought you needed to get a taste of your own medicine。
Give one a taste/dose of one's own medicine(給某人一嘗/一劑他自己開的葯)的成語,意思是‘以其人之道,還治其人之身’,例如:He seduced his friend's wife, totally unaware that he was getting a dose of his own medicine: his wife was going out with another man(他勾引了朋友的妻子,完全不知道剃人頭者,人亦剃其頭:他妻子正和另一個男人相好)。
說‘以其人之道,還治其人之身’的英文成語還有不少,其一是pay one back in one's own coin(以同樣的錢幣還給某人),例如:The bully beat up my son, so when I found him I took great pleasure in paying him back in his own coin(那個以大欺小的流氓毆打我兒子,我找到他,一定要痛痛快快地報仇)。
He once snubbed me, and I am determined to repay him in kind/pay him back in kind(他曾經待我輕慢,我決定以牙還牙)。
He often speaks ill of me, and I give him tit for tat(他經常說我壞話,我於是以牙還牙)。(
