Can I go out in this dress?
　　對 話 　　Gill: Can I go out in this dress?
　　Meg: Yes, it really suits you.
　　Gill: Oh no, look! I've snagged my pantyhose, the left leg.
　　Meg: You must have caught it on a sharp edge.
　　Gill: What'll I do now? I can't go out like this.
　　Meg: Well, if you haven't got a spare pair, why not put on a long skirt instead.
　　琪爾：我穿這套衣服外出好不好？
　　美格：好，這套衣服你穿起來很好看。
　　琪爾：啊，糟糕，看，我的褲襪鉤破了，在左腿処。
　　美格：一定是給什麽尖銳的東西鉤到撕破了。
　　琪爾：我現在怎麽辦呢？可不能這樣子外出啊。
　　美格：嗯，假如你沒有另一對褲襪，不如改穿長裙吧。
　　女人穿衣服，往往很講究，假如拿不定主意，還會問家人：Can I go in this dress? （我穿這套衣服去好不好？）。
　　畱意dress 作可數(countable)或不可數(uncountable)名詞都可以。作可數名詞，是指上下身相連的女裝；作不可數名詞，則是指衣服或服裝，例如：(1) She had on a revealing dress（她穿著一襲暴露的連身裙）。(2) Gandhi visited England in his national dress（甘地穿著民族服裝出訪英國）。
　　‘褲襪’是pantyhose或pantihose，例如：She wore (a pair of) black pantyhose under her miniskirt（她穿著迷你裙，下麪是黑色的褲襪）。英文說褲子，一般都用s這個複數形式，例如She was wearing trousers/jeans/hot pants（她穿著褲子╱牛仔褲╱熱褲）；‘褲襪’英式英文叫tights，也是用s形式。但pantyhose卻不可加s；‘兩條褲襪’是two pairs of pantyhose，不可說two pantyhoses。 Pantyhose本身就算是複數名詞，所以動詞也須用複數形式，例如：Her pantyhose were hung out to dry（她的褲襪掛了在外麪晾乾）。
　　褲襪很容易鉤破。不小心把衣服著破，英文可用snag、rip兩字來說，例如：(1) He snagged/ripped his trousers climbing up the tree（他爬到樹上時，鉤破了褲子）。(2) A nail snagged/ripped her skirt (= she snagged/ripped her skirt on a nail 她的裙子被一枚釘子鉤破了）。
